Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park’s annual cultural festival is this weekend in South Kona.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the park will host its annual Hawaiian Cultural Festival and celebrate this park’s 55th anniversary as a unit of the National Park Service. The event will also celebrate the service’s centennial year.

This year’s festival theme is “me ka lokahi ka ikaika,” which means “with unity comes strength.”

Activities will include hula performances, canoe rides in Honaunau Bay (Saturday only), guided walks, lauhala and coconut frond weaving, kapa beating, traditional lei making, and more crafts and fun.

On Sunday, the celebration continues with traditional Hawaiian food tasting and hukilau (traditional fishing) demonstration.
