WAIMEA — Wrapping up its first year this month, 100 Women in North Hawaii, a charitable group based in Waimea that supports local nonprofit projects and activities, has grown from six to more than 22 members in its first 12 months in existence.
WAIMEA — Wrapping up its first year this month, 100 Women in North Hawaii, a charitable group based in Waimea that supports local nonprofit projects and activities, has grown from six to more than 22 members in its first 12 months in existence.
Over the past four quarters, the organization awarded funds totaling more than $7,000 among four recipients during the 2015-16 year, including Hunger-Free Keiki, a group focused on feeding homeless school children on weekends; Hamakua Youth Organization; ASO Volunteer Fire Department; and Annunciation Community Food Pantry.
This was all accomplished in four hours total, during each of the group’s one-hour quarterly meetings.
Members say they are grateful to learn of worthwhile organizations right here in their backyard that they might otherwise have never come across if it weren’t for this new organization.
New members who live within the region are welcome to join 100 Women in North Hawaii at any time.
