Quran, Bible not similar at all

About Norman Bezona’s column, “Peace on Earth through peace of mind,” in the Christmas Day issue of WHT, while I appreciate Norman’s knowledge and love for plants and the beauty and peace of mind that this creative beauty often provides, I must correct his misstatement that “the message in the Quran is similar to that of the Christian Gospels.” This couldn’t be further from the facts.

In the Christian gospel’s, the Son of God, God made man, born of a virgin, sacrifices his life that others, so we, may live in spite of our sins, by turning from evil and believing in his sacrifice and thus God’s love for humanity. This is a faith where our free will and choice for faith is an individual God-given right. The Muslim faith, however, states specifically that God has no son, in other words, is in opposition to Christ as the Son of God and is an ideology based on submission, dominance and enforced behavior of the masses under the Quran and Sharia law, where blasphemy of Allah or turning away from that faith, engaging in adultery or homosexuality, can be punished by death at the hands of fellow believers.

While I appreciate Norman’s knowledgeable articles about horticulture, I could not let this misinformation in your paper stand, particularly on Christmas Day.

It’s the truth that sets us free and gives us peace of mind. Peace be with you.
