KAILUA-KONA — Tropical Depression Greg entered the Central Pacific and fizzled out on Wednesday.
The former tropical storm was downgraded to a remnant low at 11 a.m. At that time, the remnants of the storm were located about 895 miles east of South Point. Greg still featured 30 mph winds and was heading west-northwest at 9 mph, according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu.
Elsewhere in the Central Pacific, which is where Hawaii is located, no tropical cyclone formation is forecast during the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Pacific, Irwin weakened overnight to a tropical storm and was packing 60 mph winds as it tracked west-southwest at 6 mph some 2,100 miles east of the Big Island.
Hurricane Hilary, located about 490 miles off the coast of the southern tip of Baja California, remains a powerful Category 2 hurricane, forecasters said. As of Wednesday evening, it had 100 mph winds and was traveling west-northwest at 12 mph.
Forecasters expect the storm to begin weakening as it encounters colder waters and a drier, more stable air mass. It likely will be downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone on Monday.
