Stanley Kumukoa Sr.


Stanley “Blue” Kumukoa Sr., 73, of Kohala, died Jan. 2, 2018. Born on Jan. 7, 1944, he was a retired engineer for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

He is survived by his wife, Marylin (Rabang) Kumukoa; sons, Stanley Kumukoa Jr., Bruce Kumukoa of Kapaau; daughter, Rochelle (Clayton) Javillo of Kapaau; brothers, Joseph Kumukoa, Lee (Virginia) Dela Cruz, Eric (Elsie) Dela Cruz of Kapaau; sister, Gail (Frank) Pelekai of San Diego; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephew, nieces and cousins.

Valerie Badon

Valerie “Mona” Hauoli Kahaloa Badon, 61, of Hilo, died Nov. 27, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born on Oct. 30, 1956, in Hilo.

Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Jan. 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. celebration of life. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Wallace “Wally” Badon; sons, Jeremy (Jennifer) Badon and Joshtinlee “Kai” (Shanna) Badon-Dellomes; daughters, Karmel Badon and Candice “Potsie” Dunham; sisters, Kathryn LaRoche of Kentucky, Lorna Shanks of Texas and Leeona Kekua of Honolulu; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Betty Hashimoto

Betty Mitsuko Hashimoto, 82, of Volcano and formerly of Kukuihaele, died Dec. 13, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Waimea, she was a retired licensed practical nurse at the former Honokaa Hospital.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Jan. 20 at the Kukuihaele Park Pavilion. Lunch and fellowship will follow from 12-3 p.m. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Michael (Neddie) de Jesus of Kona, Jon “Omi” (Kalele Napoleon) de Jesus of Honolulu, Marc de Jesus of Volcano; stepdaughter, Lisa (Larry) Castaneda of Honokaa; sisters, Maria (Shoniro) Yano of Honokaa, Alissha Asakura of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a grandson who had preceded her in death.

Henry Yamashita

Henry Tetsuo Yamashita, 83, of Hilo, died Jan. 10, 2018, at home. Born in Hilo, he was the retired owner of the former T’s Saimin Shop, a U.S. Coast Guard Korean War veteran and member of Taishoji Soto Mission.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Jan. 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.


He is survived by wife, Taeko Yamashita of Hilo; sons, Kent (Marla) Yamashita, Kevin (Laura) Yamashita, Curt (Darlene) Yamashita, all of Hilo; brother, Richard (Suzanne) Yamashita of Honolulu; sisters, Beatrice (Roy) Sakoda of Cerritos, Calif., Ellen (Earl) Mabuni of Hilo; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
