KEALAKEKUA — A husband and wife pleaded not guilty to slew of charges in connection to a reported police standoff in Hawi last month.
On Thursday morning, Britany C. Wolf, 28, and Lucas R. Wolf, 26, appeared together before 3rd Circuit Court Judge Melvin Fujino. They each entered not guilty pleas to more than a dozen charges and requested a jury trial, which has been set for June.
Their arraignment and plea comes after the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment on Feb. 12. A preliminary hearing for the case was started and continued in late January.
Britany Wolf is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder of a law enforcement officer in connection with the Jan. 22 incident off Alaalae Road, in addition to 14 other charges.
Lucas R. Wolf, was not charged with attempted murder. He faces a total of 15 charges.
On Thursday, defense counsel Ann Datta was standing in for Wendy DeWeese, who represents Britany Wolf. Datta asked the court to reduce her bail, which is currently set at $303,000.
Deputy prosecutor Chase Murray opposed the reduction, saying Britany Wolf has loose ties to the state and she is facing serious charges.
A bail reduction was denied.
Lucas Wolf’s bail remains $26,000.
Charges stem from a police standoff in Hawi on Jan. 22 on the 3500 block of Alaalae Road. Police say the couple exhibited aggressive behaviors toward the property owner when he attempted to evict them, and allege Britany Wolf fired a single shot from a weapon. The 56-year-old property owner was not injured.
The department’s Special Response Team (SRT) responded to the scene. As the incident continued, police say, Britany Wolf fired two additional gunshots, one of which struck the SRT’s armored vehicle.
