Military units are scheduled to conduct various types of training in March at Pohakuloa Training Area that may be heard or observed by surrounding communities including Waikii Ranch, Waimea and Waikoloa Village. Marines are scheduled to practice helicopter gunnery training March 1 and the Army March 5-30, while the Army will do mortar live-fire training March 2-4.

While sometimes loud, this training is critical to ensure that military units and service members are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely.
