Hisayo Kubo

Hisayo Kubo, 89, of Pahoa died Feb. 10, 2018, at the Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center of Oahu. Born in Olaa, she was a retired sales clerk at the former Pahoa Cash and Carry, member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission, Kyu Pahoa Kumiai and Pahoa Nikkei Jin Kai.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

Survived by son, Andrew (Ada) Kubo of Keaau; brothers, Aki (Aiko) Muranaka of Torrance, California, Jack (Jean) Muranaka of Honolulu; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews.

Lonnie Grimes

Lonnie Joe Grimes, 64, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 7, 2018, at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Indianapolis and was a retired aircraft mechanic and veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Naalehu.

Visitation 9-10 a.m. March 10 at the Ka’u Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Naalehu for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service, followed by burial at the Naalehu Community Cemetery. Casual attire.

He is survived by his son, Quinntin Kaawa of Naalehu; daughters, Maelynn Grimes of Indianapolis, and Jolynn Grimes of Honolulu; sisters, Ruth Balch of Fort Worth, Texas and Juanita Jacobs of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Francisco Cordero

Francisco Cordero, Jr., 48, of Ewa Beach, Oahu died Feb. 3, 2018 at Queen’s Medical Center in West Oahu. He was born in Hilo and worked at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Honolulu as work leader.

Friends may call 5-9 p.m. March 10 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. prayer service. Casual attire. Cremation to follow at Dodo Mortuary Crematory A private urn committal will be held at a later date.

He is survived by Janet Ragasa of Ewa Beach, Oahu; stepson, Skyler Keoni Dela Cruz of Ewa Beach, Oahu; brother, Wayne Cordero, Sr. of California; sisters, Lisa (Romeo Eugenio) Cordero of Mountain View and Marilynn (Mark) Lowery of Pepeekeo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Robert Gokan

Mr. Robert D. Gokan, 64, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 1, 2018, at his residence. Born April 7, 1953, in Lihue, Kauai, he was a cashier at Costco Store in Kailua-Kona.

Visitation will be held at noon March 10 at the Kona Outdoor Circle, 76-6280 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona for a 1 p.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by his sister, Donna Gokan of California.

Valentine Gonsalves Sr.

Valentine (Val) Kapiolani Gonsalves Sr., 63 of Hilo, died Feb. 8, 2018, at Pohai Malama in Hilo. Born June 21, 1954, in Maile, Oahu she was best known for his workmanship as the Owner of V &D Roofing and Construction Company.

Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 10 at Living Waters Assembly of God, 89 Maikai St. Hilo, HI 96720.

He is survived by partner, Diana Mae Gonsalves; parents, Edward and Julie Rose; sons; Valentine K. (Tiffany) Gonsalves Jr., Edward N. Gonsalves, Jarday K. Gonsalves, Albert M. Gonsalves; daughters Ernesta M. Gonsalves, Danyal L. (David) Roberts; Brothers Frances Gonsalves, Danny Gonsalves Jr., Stephen Rose; sisters, Diana Gomes, Lolita Rohr, Bernadette Gonslaves, Gigi Rosa Phyllis (Charles) Dudoit, Julie Ann Deguair, Edie (Alizabeth) Hilihema-Rose, Karolyne Gonsalves; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Gordon Palmer

Mr. Gordon Hubert Palmer, 76, of Waikoloa, died Feb. 2, 2018, at his residence. Born Feb. 18, 1941, in North Hilo, he was a station manager for Hawaiian Airlines in Honolulu. He was a station manager for Avis Rent A Car at the old Kona Airport, and a security officer for Securitas Security Services and Freeman Guards, Inc.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. March 10 at Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Palmer of Waikoloa; sons, James Perkins and Ronald Perkins, both of Waikoloa; daughters, Denette (Gerald) Gaspar of Nanakuli, Oahu, Ebby Gleason and Laurie (Steven) Mahelona, all of Kailua-Kona, Lynette Pacheco of Laughlin, Nev., Lisa (Alvin) Inouye of Captain Cook, and Leilani Palmer of Joshua Tree, Calif.; brother, Arnold (Kathy) Palmer of Texas; sister, Lolinda Tobin of the mainland; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tokiko Sakata

Tokiko Sakata, 89, of Captain Cook, died Jan. 19, 2018, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in June 24, 1928, in Kealakekua, she was a produce clerk at Sure Save Market. She was a member of the Honaunau Kumiai No. 2, Kumamamoto Kenjin Kai and the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.

Private services were held. The family requests no monetary offerings please.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Walter) Okura of Capt. Cook; sons, Roy Sakata and Chadwick Sakata of Kealakekua; sister, Takiyo Tanaka of Kealakekua; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eulma Schenck

Eulma “Peaches” Schenck, 90, died Feb. 25, 2018. Born in Chicago, she was 30-year resident of Kailua-Kona, a retired teacher in New Jersey and taught in the Kona school system. She was also a Daughter of Hawaii, Calabash Cousin, and active Native American pow wow participant.

A celebration service will be 11: a.m. March 10 at at Christ Church Episcopal, 81-1004 Konawaena School Road in Kealakekua. An oceanside service will be 7:45 a.m. Sunday at Keauhou Beach Canoe Club. Info: Rev. D. H. Schenck (302) 388-7526.
