4 lanes badly needed
My wife and I visit the Big Island three to four times per year and have done so for the past several years.
We love it here — except the traffic!
What makes it extra hard to understand is the snail pace of the four lanes from Kailua-Kona to the airport. That should have been completed in 12 months. Why years now and it still is not done?
By the way, Big Islanders need four lanes at least all the way to Waikoloa. But at the speed of the north Kona project, would it take two or three decades? Seems likely. And, oh so sad!
I think some folks should be losing their jobs right now!

No need for pets on airplanes
I have owned many pets throughout my life, including cats, dogs, fish, turtles, and even a pet crow.
Each has been loved and well cared for and most lived to a ripe old age. I don’t currently own a pet because I travel a good bit. I miss the companionship, but I feel it is the right thing to do.
Why, then, do so many people have such disregard for helpless animals? Is it that they just can’t control their need to have something to lord over?
If someone is making a permanent move, flight travel for their pet may be justified. However, in general, just bringing your pet along on a trip is totally irresponsible — how selfish.
The recent deaths of pets on airlines is very sad but it is not just an airline issue, rather much of the blame lies with the pet owner’s selfish actions.

presidential candidates, redux
Warren Field does the Republican tap dance once more saying that as a Christian he doesn’t endorse Trump’s character, then pivots immediately to say Mrs. Clinton is an “obvious criminal” and “of dubious character.” How Christian of you, considering Mrs. Clinton has never been convicted of anything illegal. She has shown to be of high character, from her child advocacy work as a young lawyer, through her roles as first lady, U.S. senator from New York, Secretary of State, and presidential candidate. Few people have had such a sterling life and contributed more.
Trump’s policies will not result in fewer babies aborted. Programs like Planned Parenthood have already shown that family planning has resulted in fewer abortions. As a woman, I know that abortions will not cease because men like Trump decree so. Women of means will get their abortions on demand (through well-paid, willing doctors, or plane tickets to foreign clinics), and people of few means will die. Before 1973 that’s how it was, and so it will be again if Planned Parenthood is closed and freedom of choice is no longer available.
Stronger economy? More people working? Higher pay? Thank you, President Obama. You call him “a liberal candidate with a weak resume.” Go ahead, insult this brilliant, moral man, but who did the White House turn to when the economy collapsed? It was Barack Obama who was the adult in the room. Bush was clueless, and John McCain sat silent. After the election it was President Obama who saved us and put the country back on track. The results of his decisions and hard work are being enjoyed today.
