Terrible news often doubles down as a humbling reminder of what is really important.
And when we learned Mayor Harry Kim suffered an apparent heart attack and was medevaced to Oahu after driving himself to the hospital early Thursday morning, politics became incredibly irrelevant.
Balanced budgets, general excise tax increases, short-term rental regulation, all that is moot.
Harry Kim is what’s important.
West Hawaii Today wishes Kim and his ohana the speediest of recoveries. It’s been a politically intense couple of years for the mayor, without question, but regardless of which side of the fence one stands on concerning Hawaii County issues, there is no questioning how deeply the mayor cares for the island.
Mr. Mayor, you cannot get back here soon enough.
