Shelter donations full, but restaurant donations needed
The County of Hawaii is asking people to refrain from dropping off any monetary, in-kind, or food donations, including prepared food donations at the shelters.
They are working with The Salvation Army and community/business partners to set up a donation distribution center in Puna. However, the location is to be determined. For further information, you can call The Salvation Army at 756-0306.
The two American Red Cross shelters that remain open for residents evacuated from their homes are the Pahoa Community Center, 15-3022 Kauhale Street, Pahoa, and Keaau Community Center, 16-186 Pili Mua St, Keaau.
However, a need continues for large volume meal donations from restaurants and certified kitchens for meal service at shelters starting Wednesday.
The need continues from these types of establishments due to health safety food preparation standards for meal service at shelters starting Wednesday. Meal service is already covered until then.
To donate large volume meals, local restaurants and certified kitchens may contact The Salvation Army at (808) 756-0306. Please note, smaller, home-prepared foods and meals, cannot be accepted for meal service at shelters due to health safety food preparation standards.
Additional corporate partners have stepped up to support The Salvation Army’s EDS efforts and offer a variety of ways the public can participate:
• First Hawaiian Bank – Aloha for Hawaii Fund to support relief efforts for the Kilauea Volcano Eruption on the Big Island and recovery efforts for flooding on Kauai and in East Oahu. Donations can now be made at any of First Hawaiian Bank’s 61 branches located in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan. First Hawaiian Bank also donated $50,000 to the cause.
• Foodland – “Aloha for Puna &Pahoa” Disaster Relief (The Salvation Army). Customers will be able to make monetary donations at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores in Hawaii in $5, $10 or $20 amounts beginning Wednesday. Donations will go toward The Salvation Army’s EDS efforts.
• HiLife – Kokua Collection – A percentage of the proceeds from various HiLife clothing items in their Kokua Collection will be donated to Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands division to assist with their relief efforts to victims of recent devastating floods on Oahu and Kauai as well as erupting volcano on Hawaii island. Hawaii Island Humane Society taking donations
Mahalo to our community for the outpouring of support in this time of need! All of our shelters have been receiving donations throughout the day – thank you.
If you’d like to help, donations of pet food, towels, sheets and kennels/crates are welcome. You can drop them off at any Hawaii Island Humane Society shelter or at the Pahoa Community Center or Keaau Senior Center emergency shelters.
Please note that our Keaau shelter cannot board animals. The Pahoa Community Center and Keaau School are pet friendly shelters. We are in need of volunteers to help register people and their pets at these shelters. If you are available, please call our Keaau shelter at 966-5458.
We are in need of dog and cat food and new or used sheets and towels. Thank you!
The only concerns re: donations, I have been made aware of is the Red Cross not distributing donations made for evictees and evacuees. I have no idea if this has been resolved but this article discusses multiple donation distributers for Hawaii island Pele Evictees and Refugees.
Hopefully those people needing help are grateful for their lives being spared, count their blessings of another chance at life and appreciate how lucky they are not to be devoured by an alternate violent Eruption, and reconsider what they need to reconsider.
I’m not in that supremely sacred space invading Pele’s domain and Her known Pathways, and appreciate that I’m not.
Pre-assessed maps of most likely Pathways Pele would take show that the human trespass of “zoning” of Her lands for residential lots is preventable, changeable and foolish. So is the disregard in sale and purchase of Pele’s Land pre-assessed to be the most likely path of Her Flows.
Completely preventable self-inflicted endangerment, desecration of sacred and stupidity.
Those who say “cannot rezone” because “cannot,” will face Pele’s real, unbridled wrath, not Her mercy, as She is showing here.
This is not a disaster. This is not a devastation. This is the Mercy of the Goddess and to call Her Manifesting in this Calm, Merciful way anything that is a lie or negative or to feel “victimized” when our lives are actually Spared is an affront to Pele, One and the Same, Manifestation as the source of all Creation.
This should never happen to Pele or another family again and in the “rebuilding” of infrastructure ALL this should be reconsidered by the desecrating zoning, road building government entities at fault and other government actors as well as home makers.
Your actions or lack thereof will Save more lives or Kill more lives.
