Report release a
ticking time bomb
I think we all know more or less what Mr. Mueller has discovered in the 16 months he has been on the job. But when he releases his findings it will cause a tsunami of political upheaval, financial distress, stock market collapse, foreign affairs in limbo and much collateral damage in the real estate market, tourism and on and on.
It will be much bigger than the Nixon debacle because it will come all at once rather than spread out over a long, hot summer. I have no idea what plans Mr. Mueller has to ease the impact of his release. We should all have survival plans in place.

Lava rock a disaster
waiting to happen
I agree with Randy Richards’ comments on Aug. 6 regarding the installation of ‘a’a, sharp lava rock (I wouldn’t call them small) on the center divider of the new section of Queen Kaahumanu Highway. What happens to a motorcyclist or driver forced into the rocks because the shoulder is not wide enough to accommodate a car? Or, what about an accident of one or more vehicles that end up there?
Not only are the rocks a safety hazard, they are a maintenance problem. Weeds/fountain grass will grow. It’s a very large area to spray, the county’s schedule of spraying is erratic at best, and even if they spray, we will be left with ugly, dead weeds. Look at any road areas they spray. How can ugly dead weeds be cleaned up on areas that large where walking is impossible? What a first impression for visitors!
Come on mayor, county representatives and department heads, we don’t need another hazardous and expensive redo like the bike-lanes-repaint mistake or the first highway section center divider redo from irrigated, maintained grass to move natural growth. Someone is responsible for these ridiculous decisions and should be replaced.
The rocks should be removed, the area smoothed and mowed like the older section of the highway. Our county can’t afford more accidents or lawsuits.
