Body found in Puna, police investigating murder

KAILUA-KONA — Police are investigating a murder after a body was found on the side of Anthurium Street in Puna Saturday.

At about 1:45 p.m., patrol officers responded to Fern Acres following a report of a resident hearing multiple gunshots around Anthurium Street. While responding, a passing motorist reported seeing a body on the side of that road, according to a press release from the Hawaii Police Department.

Officers found a man face down on the side of the street with apparent gunshot wounds to his body and spent casings nearby.

The man has not yet been positively identified.

Detectives with the criminal investigation section are continuing the investigation, which is classified as a murder, and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
