Good grief, whoever wrote the Saturday diatribe about not getting a press release from the hospital sounds like a petulant child.
You mention a “grudge,” but make no mention of why there might be one. You write that a message was left “on Friday morning…” and then, that you hadn’t received an answer “on Friday.” You go on to mention that the paper has been receiving other press releases, so why would you think “petty motives were at play?”
When did the press decide not to give someone the benefit of the doubt, when an explanation was offered? I’ve had that happen — thinking I’d sent messages to a number of people, only to find out that my program had pulled a different email address than the one I intended. Did anyone in the newspaper office consider that the people at the hospital might have a lot of details to deal with, with such an emergency going on?
What seems “petty, unprofessional and irresponsible” is not the missing press release, but this attempt to make what was probably an honest mistake into some kind of devious plot to thwart the publication of news relating to public health. It just doesn’t make sense on any level.

‘Keep them flying,
remember Pearl Harbor’
I am a Vietnam veteran and look at the Naval Special ops training exercises as necessary to protect our country making sure we have a well-trained military ready when they are needed. As the WWII banner stated, “Keep them flying, remember Pearl Harbor.”
In addition to the pristine coastline and business concerns mentioned in earlier letters, my concern is that the training area from Mahukona to Kawaihae has numerous cultural sites that will be hard not to affect with any kind of air, land or ocean operations. Our local nonprofit, Kohala Lihikai, working with other local nonprofits and the National Park Service has been fortunate in acquiring Kaiholena and Paoo for protection and preservation for the public.
These lands are inside the affected training area. With the multiple cultural sites uncovered by archaeological reports along this coast, it would be nearly impossible not to affect any of them, especially training operations at night. For this reason, I do not recommend the naval training from Mahukona to Kawaihae.
