Joseph Sherrard

Joseph "Joe" "K" Sherrard, 86, of Hilo, died Oct. 29 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 13, 1923, in Spooner, Minn., he retired from the University of Hawaii at Hilo as an instructor of the Hotel and Restaurant Training Program and also was in charge of the Food Service in the Peace Corps Program on the Big Island. He was also a Marine Corps veteran, as well as a member of the North Star Lodge No. 23 AF & AM in Minnesota, Kilauea Masonic Lodge F&M in Hilo, Hilo York Rite Bodies, American Legion (Yukio Okutsu Post 16), Veterans of Foreign Wars (Orr-Onizuka), Post 3875 and Disabled American Veterans (Chapter 9) Hilo.

Friends may call Nov. 7 at the Kilauea Masonic Lodge in Hilo, where visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Masonic service is at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers and lei are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Frances Sherrard, of Hilo; sons, Joseph (Dorothy) Sherrard, William Sherrard, of Sacramento, Calif.; daughters, Celeste Sherrard, of Las Vegas, Cynthia (Duncan) Galland, of Anchorage, Alaska, Katherine (John) Geerlings, of Salt Lake City; sisters, Olive Bellman, Julie (Dwayne) Johnson, of South St. Paul, Minn.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
