Supreme Court rules in favor of state in appeal relating to TMT

KAILUA-KONA — Today, the Hawaii Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the state Board of Land and Natural Resources was not required to hold a contested case hearing before consenting to a sublease by the University of Hawaii to TMT International Observatory for the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea.

Brush fire in Ka‘u grows to 700 acres

KAILUA-KONA – A brushfire that started Sunday morning on Keauhou Ranch crossed Mauna Loa Road into Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and is moving west. National Park Service (NPS) firefighters and the County of Hawaii are working to control the blaze, now estimated to be around 700 acres.

Fire hits 15k acres; 70 percent contained

KAILUA-KONA — Efforts to battle a brush fire near Waikoloa continue and are likely to go on through the weekend and into Monday, said West Hawaii Battalion Chief Michael Grace.
