Books Are Building Blocks
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona is hosting their free family Read Aloud Program, "Books are Building Blocks," from 4:30 – 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Kailua Kona Public Library. This will be the final program of this school year. During this year, participants have been traveling around the world and getting their “passports” stamped each month as we explore the world through reading. Join us for this entertaining and informative program to encourage family literacy. This month the Passport destinations will truly be around the world with foreign exchange students from Ukraine, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam. They will share a little about their homelands, their culture and their experiences being in Kona for the year. Come and share your aloha with them and learn about these admirable students.
Parents must attend the program with their children. There will be separate reading groups: Kindergarten, grades 1 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6 and a Parent group. Each group will have a person reading aloud to them, followed by a discussion of what was read.
Registration will take place from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in front of the library, monthly program from 5:00 to 5:30 PM, and Reading by Age Group from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. Afterward, the families will meet on the lanai for light refreshments provided by Costco, door prizes, and books. Participation is limited to seventy five participants.
