Tiffany’s Art Agency presents printmaker, Andrea Pro Collectors Reception | November 11, 2017 | 5 - 7 pm Hawaii’s native environment is a key inspiration for printmaker, Andrea Pro. Last year, her work caught the attention of the owners of Big Island Bees in Captain Cook, HI and she was commissioned to create three new images that you’ll soon find available on various items in their museum/gift shop. Her latest work features the beloved honey bee collecting nectar from the three specific flowers Big Island Bees creates its amazing varietals of honey from–‘ohi‘a lehua blossoms, macadamia nut ower, and wilelaiki blossoms on the christmasberry tree. “Historically the o‘hi‘a is Hawaii’s most abundant tree, found in many ecosystems, and is essential to the well-being and integrity of native forest ecosystems,” shares Andrea. "Recently ‘ohi‘a on the Island of Hawaii have been infected by a fast-spreading fungus that has already caused thousands of acres of this precious tree to wilt and die suddenly. Scientists and residents are engaged in research and many kinds of remedies to slow down the progress of this disease and preserve the ‘ohi‘a. Woodblock printmaking became my medium to document this environment. Unlocking the mysteries embedded in the grain of wood, making marks with chisels and grappling with the puzzle of the image reversing when transferred from wood to paper satis es my intellect, soul and hands in a deeply joyful way. My prints are made one at a time by hand and are printed on beautiful archival papers in limited editions.”
