"Recovery from Concussive Injury - It Takes a Village"
North Hawaii Community Hospital welcomes Melinda Roalstad to discuss how it takes a village to support someone who’s experienced a concussion – from pre-injury education to post-injury management. She will share the physiology of what happens in the brain following a concussive injury, the risks involved with re-injury during healing, and the ideal recovery process in terms of day to day adjustments in life that need to occur for successful outcomes. This discussion is free and open to the public. Coaches, parents, athletic enthusiasts, physical therapists, chiropractors and other providers/physicians are encouraged to attend. Melinda Roalstad, former Medical Director for the US Ski and Snowboarding Association, created protocols for treating elite athletes following head injuries. These protocols have been adopted by the International Ski Federation to properly manage concussion injuries in the sport of skiing and snowboarding around the world. She is also the co-founder of Think Head First, LLC, a program devoted to raising consciousness about and helping to coordinate recovery from concussive injury.
