Umauma stream bridge work continues
Alternating single lane closures remain in effect 24/7 on the Umauma stream bridge on Hawaii Belt Road, near mile marker 16 in Hakalau, for bridge repairs, according to the state Department of Transportation. Starting Monday, however, motorists will be shifted from the old bridge to a new temporary bridge.
Truckers are advised that the 25-ton weight restriction on the detour route will be rescinded upon opening of the new detour. Trucks and trailers that exceed the statutory size-weight limits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis upon application of their respective oversize-overweight vehicle permits, according to the state. The maximum width for any vehicle with permit passing over the bridge is 12 feet.
Motorists are asked to drive with caution and obey all posted signs in the area. Questions can be directed to J. Sonomura of the state Department of Transportation Highways Division at 933-8866.
