Foundation accepts grant applications

Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation is accepting applications for grant requests from organizations and projects that help to improve the legal status and welfare of women and children in Hawaii.

The foundation considers grant applications twice a year in March and September. The deadline for receipt of grant applications has been extended to April 4.

Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation typically awards micro grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. The foundation’s primary criteria include: improving women and children’s access to the legal system, reducing child abuse, reducing domestic violence, reducing sexual abuse, increasing financial independence, and improving women and children’s health, education and welfare.

‘Laugh for Relief’ adds second show

A second ‘Laugh for Relief’ comedy show has been scheduled for 9 p.m. today at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel after the 7 p.m. performance sold out.

The event will feature Filipino comics Augie T and Rex Navarrete and will benefit those affected by Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines in November.

Tickets are $20 presale, or $25 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Rumley Art and Frame at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel or at augiet.com.

Codependents group meeting Monday

A Co-Dependents Anonymous women’s meeting will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday at Unity Church Sanctuary, 75-5722 Hanama Place in Kailua-Kona.

Co-Dependents Anony-mous is a fellowship of men and women whose common purpose is recovery from codependence and the development and maintenance of healthy relationships.

St. Patrick’s Day craft planned

Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day craft workshop Monday at Kekuaokalani Gym. Participants will decorate cookies and cupcakes. To register or for more information, call Diego Padillio or Wes Sermon at 327-3553.

Fundraising course offered in Waimea

New and experienced fundraisers are invited to the Association for Fundraising Professionals Aloha Chapter’s two-day “AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course.”

This annual workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 19 and 20 at Parker School, 65-1224 Lindsey Road in Waimea. The course is developed and designed by experienced fundraising professionals to meet the needs and challenges nonprofit organizations face.

Codependents men’s meeting changed

A Co-dependents Anonymous men’s meeting will be held at 7 p.m. every Monday at Access Capabilities, 74-5583 Pawai Place, Suite B125.

This new meeting replaces the two meetings which were being held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturdays.

Hospital auxiliary holds meeting, bake sale

The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary will hold its monthly board meeting at 1 p.m. Monday in the hospital conference room. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting and a bake sale held from 7 to 9 a.m. Fridays in the hospital cafeteria.

Park offers workshop for teachers

Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park will host a free teachers workshop on anchialine pools from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22 at the park’s visitor center.

There will be a ranger hike followed by an activity related to anchialine pools that can be used in the classroom. Lunch will be provided. The class is a limited to 12 participants.
