Health care seminar slated Wednesday
Dr. Frank Sayre and Laura Mallery-Sayre are hosting a free health care seminar Wednesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center in the Council Chambers for the community. The seminar will be presented by Lauren Turner, RN, CNOR, clinical field specialist for Celling Biosciences, a company dedicated to researching and developing the future of healing through regenerative medicine and the clinical use of autologous stem cells to facilitate the body’s capacity to heal itself.
Turner has worked with Dr. Christina Sheely, one of the foremost orthopedic stem cell surgeons in the U.S. who has had success in regrowing joint cartilage using the patient’s own bone marrow for the harvest and placement of stem cells in joints that have lost significant cartilage. She has successfully treated Mallery-Sayre’s knee for a torn lateral meniscus. The knee was injured in training for the Boston Marathon and the meniscus was removed in a previous surgery 14 years ago. Since that time, Mallery-Sayre’s knee was continuously swollen and painful. X-rays demonstrated that the right lateral aspect of her knee was bone on bone. After seeing Sheely and having the autologous stem cell surgery, the knee has regrown cartilage and has completely recovered, Mallery-Sayre said. In addition, the stem cells were used to differentiate and eliminate scar tissue that had formed in the body of the muscle around the knee. For the first time in 14 years, she has no pain or swelling in her knee and she is back to exercising without discomfort because of Sheely’s treatment, she said.
The seminar will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided from 5:30 to 6:15 and the seminar will start at 6:15. Reservations must be made by Tuesday be emailing mallerysayre @hawaii.rr.com.
Class helps attendees start a business
A “How To Start A Business In Hawaii” workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Ocean View Association, 92-8924 Leilani Parkway in Ocean View.
Attendees will learn how to get started and how to decide whether entrepreneurship is right for them. Cost is $10.

Kona Family Church holds Friday event
Kona Family Church will hold a “Friday Night Get Together” Friday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with dinner entertainment by Hawaiian singer Alii Keanaaina and an informal inspirational talk is also planned.
