Waikoloa Dog Park Group meeting open to all North Hawaii residents: Next step to bring first dog park to the region

WAIKOLOA VILLAGE — Dog lovers in North Hawaii who want to support a new Waikoloa Village dog park can attend a public meeting from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Homeowner’s Association Community Room, next to Waikoloa Grill &Bar.

    Boyd Bond will give the second of three Hawaiian history talks at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at North Kohala Library in Kapaau.

    From 2-3 p.m. Oct. 28, more than 20 of the group’s members will hold the quarterly meeting at Paniolo Restaurant in Waimea. Two or three members make presentations about a local charitable activity. Members then vote for the one they wish to fund that quarter, and write their donations directly to the selected charity. Visitors and new members are welcome.

    Beginning tomorrow, Waimea’s public library will be closed through Friday. It is scheduled to re-open this Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

    The 2017 Community Arts Exhibit is open through Oct. 30 at Isaacs Art Center. The free show features art pieces by students ages 13 and older who participated in a 12-week summer art session taught by Scot Plunket featuring guest storyteller Ku’ulei Keakealani.

Knowing when to bring up uncomfortable topics — and how to express thoughts and feelings — will be addressed in an interactive workshop facilitated by Elizabeth Kent from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. tomorrow at Mana Christian Ohana.

    Applications are now being accepted online for a variety of hotel positions. The deadline to submit an application is tomorrow. Only those who have done so will be invited to the Fairmont Orchid’s Oct. 16 interview fair.

    Representatives from Waimea community groups, organizations, churches, schools, ranches, farmers, businesses and residents are invited to participate in the parade planning from 8:30-10 a.m. Oct. 11 at Historic Spencer House’s Conference Room.

    The park, originally built by Waimea volunteers when it first opened in the 1990s, is still in need of local residents to help re-build the facility during build week Oct. 24-28.

    From 9-11 a.m. on Tuesdays, volunteers at the Waimea Catholic church prepare food boxes for community members in need – usually one box a month. Donations including fresh vegetables and fruits. Volunteers are welcome.
