Mauloa, Hokulea canoes on display Saturday

The community is invited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Mauloa Sailing Canoe from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Kailiilinehe at Keauhou Bay.

Mauloa was the first canoe built by Na Kalai Waa of Hawaii Island. Construction began in 1991, using a log found in the Keauhou Forest in Ka‘u. The watercraft was completed at Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park and launched in 1993. Mauloa has since been used to educate the youth of Hawaii.

This drug- and alcohol-free event will also feature cultural exhibits, tours of the Hokulea Voyaging Canoe and live entertainment.
