Horse show at HPA
The 38th annual Horse Show, featuring jumping and play day events, will be held 9 a.m. Sunday at Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s upper campus in Waimea.
Riders not yet entered in the show must post entries before the start of the division in which they wish to compete. Fee is $10 for the day, plus the regular class entry fee.

Konawaena football events
The Wildcats will hold a celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Patz Pies at Paparoni’s in Captain Cook. Tickets, which include a buffet and prize drawings, are $20 in advance and can be purchased from the Konawaena High School athletic department.
A limited number of tickets will be available the day of the event for $25 each.
The Wildcats will partner with Hawaii Food Basket on May 30 for a food drive at their Green & White game at Konawaena High School.
Fans who donate four cans or five pounds of food will receive complimentary tickets to the game. Admission is $4 for adults; $2 for senior citizens; and free for children 12 and younger. Food items must be in cans or unopened nonperishable bags.
The Green & White game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., preceded by a 5:30 flag football game between the police and fire departments.
Parks and Recreation activity
Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering after-school programs for youth.
The “board and table games” activity, for ages 5 to 14, is from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through May 14, at Kekuaokalani Gym. Register by April 30.

Makalei club closure

Kai Opua Canoe Club regatta
The 15th annual Businessmen’s Regatta on Sunday starts with registration at 8 a.m. then racing at 9.
The fees are: $120 for 6-person crew, additional $60 for double hull entry; $200 for double hull entry only.
There are multiple divisions, and crew can be single-sex or mixed. Crew can also be combined with other teams. Participants should bring own paddles; Kai Opua will supply them and steersmen if needed.
Festivities include a best-costume award and postrace party.

Registration for Hilo’s triathlon
Hilo’s first official triathlon will start at 7 a.m. July 13 at James Kealoha Beach Park.
The Olympic-distance race, which consists of a 1.5-km swim, 40-km bike ride and 10-km run, is limited to 500 participants.
Registration is $150 through May 30 and $175 to June 29. Online registration ends at midnight June 30.

Honokaa High School is accepting applications for varsity football head coach and assistants.

Hapuna Golf Course will host a charity golf tournament May 4 to benefit American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge Hawaii.

Summer hoops camp at Konawaena
The 2014 Hawaii Island Hoops College-Prep Basketball Camp will be held June 16 to 20 at Konawaena High School.
The camp, under the direction of Andy Smith, offers skill development for youngsters and introduces them to college-style workouts and training.
Smith will be joined on the teaching staff by college coaches from the junior college, NAIA and NCAA levels.
The camp fee is $350 and includes a jersey and shorts, college coaching and instruction, meals and seminars on academic requirements, financial aid and athletic recruitment.
