Resort promotes Heubel to executive chef
Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa has promoted by William “Bill” Heubel from executive sous chef to the position of executive chef at the 521-room resort.
Heubel trained at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and then further honed his skills at several four-star hotels throughout California and Arizona. In the mid-1990s, he was recruited to work at Manele Bay on Lanai and later at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows on the Big Island.
In his new position as executive chef, Heubel will bring his love of Californian, Mediterranean and Hawaii Regional cuisines to the forefront in Kai, the resort’s breakfast and dinner eatery and in the poolside Manta Ray Bar & Grill. His culinary influence will also reach in-room dining and the resort’s banquet and catering operation.
Additionally, Heubel is responsible for all aspects of resort food operations from menu creation and execution to administration, cost control and product quality at resort restaurants and at Kamahao, the luau dinner and show held Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at the resort.
Realina is recipient of KTA’s Alaska vacation
KTA Super Stores ran an Alaska Get Away Fishing package sweepstakes from Memorial Day through July 4 and the winner was Beatriz Realina, who brought her daughter, Katheryn Shay along for the expense-paid, weeklong trip.
Although both of them decided to spend a couple of days sightseeing instead of fishing, they did manage to fill up a full box of frozen salmon and halibut, including a couple of King Salmon. Temperatures in the low 60s and high 50s did nothing to dampen their spirits for the six days at the lodge with both stream fishing in the icy streams and ocean fishing out in the wild Bering Sea.
The five days of fishing were coordinated by Coors Light, KWXX Radio and Southeast Retreat, on the Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska.
Rotary asking for GSE applications
Hawaii Rotary District 5000 is seeking four qualified applicants to join the Hawaii Group Study Exchange, which is heading to Australia (Rotary District 9640) March 23 through April 24, 2007. The GSE program, a study exchange between various countries, funds 30 days of travel for team members.
Applicants must be professionals, ages 25 to 40, who have been employed full time for two years in a recognized profession. Professionals in the tourism, travel and agriculture industries are also encouraged to apply. Team members will be selected by a district selection committee based on applications and interviews.
GSE teams include four non-Rotarians and one Rotary team leader. They will live in host Rotarians’ homes and follow a prepared itinerary. Team members study and observe their host country’s professional, commercial and industrial operations, systems of government and education, health, welfare and social institutions.
