Kamehameha-Hawaii and Hawaii Prep are familiar foes when it comes to playing for the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division II girls basketball championship, meeting in the final the past seven years.
That won’t be the case this time with the teams facing each other in the BIIF semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium with a Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II state tournament berth on the line.
In a first-round playoff game, HPA took care of business on Wednesday night, beating Pahoa 54-24 at Castle Gym in Waimea.
Leahi Lindsey scored 19 points, and Chancis Fernandez and Eliyah Fernandez had eight each to lead Ka Makani (8-3), the BIIF runner-up the past four years to Kamehameha.
Randi Berinobis scored 13 points to lead the Daggers (1-10).
Ka’u (4-7) will meet Honokaa (7-3) in the other BIIF semifinal at 3 p.m.

c Ka’u 58, Kohala 43: Pilialoha Kailiawa had a fabulous game, scoring 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting to lead the host Trojans, who lost to Honokaa for the BIIF’s third spot in the state tournament last year.
Kailiawa went 1-of-1 from 3-point territory, buried 10 of 12 field goals, made 2 of 3 free throws and was equally effective on the defensive end. She had six blocks, seven rebounds and three steals. Taylor Pocock added 14 points.
Jordelle Antonio scored 16 points to lead the visiting Cowgirls (4-7), who were missing a few key players and trailed 30-16 at halftime.
