The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory for Big Island summits through noon today.
The service forecast up to 1 inch of snow would fall above the 8,000 feet on Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. The snow showers are part of an upper level trough that passed over the Big Island Saturday night.
The service also predicted easterly winds blowing at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s.
Motorists are advised roads may be icy. Freezing fog could reduce visibility to less than 1/2 mile, according to the service.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties, according to the service.
