Konawaena yearbook golf tourney April 14
There will be a golf tournament April 14 at Kona Country Club to benefit Ka Wena O Kona, the Konawaena High School yearbook. The format for the tournament is a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Registration and check-in are at 6:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $100 per person.

Senior basketball league starts in April
A 50-and-over, half-court basketball league will begin April 18 and run through Aug. 8. Any teams or players interesting in joining should call Chuck Corbe at 327-3287 no later than April 9.
Keep on running
set for April 15
M2 Fitness and Big Island Running Co. present Keep on Running, a clinic to have your running form analyzed by a professional, on April 15 at M2 Fitness in Kona. Participants will first meet with Jason Braswell for a video gait analysis, followed by an evaluation with physical therapist Jeff Dietrichson, and finally a discussion of running shoes and gear with Melissa Braswell.
One-hour time slots are available starting at noon. The cost is $70 for registration prior to April 2 and $80 for registration after April 2.

Beginner golf
classes for women
Golf professional Rob Wohlgemuth will offer a five-week series of beginner golf lessons for women at Makalei Golf Club beginning April 7.
The class meets five consecutive Saturdays from 8 to 10 a.m., and the cost of instruction is $50. The class is open to all women who are interested in the basics of golf. Call Wohlgemuth at 937-0130 to enroll.
Konawaena High, Kaiser offer physical exams May 9
Konawaena High School will be offering pre-participation physical exams in association with Kaiser Permanente on May 9 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Forms and informational materials are available at the vice principal’s, athletic director’s, and athletic trainer’s offices on campus. The cost is $15, and physical forms must be filled out and turned in by April 25.

Silliman and Eusebio will discuss the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Golf Course activities available to locals and visitors. Eusebio will announce some new information about the Mauna Kea Junior Golf summer program. It will be offered in partnership with the Waikoloa Village Golf Course.

Keauhou Canoe Club $1,000 scholarships
The Keauhou Canoe Club will offer two $1,000 scholarships to any West Hawaii graduating senior who was a member of a high school paddling team or club-level paddling organization within the past 18 months.
The first is an academic scholarship awarded to a student with a minimum 2.9 grade-point average. Transcripts are required.
The second scholarship is the Mike Haines Memorial Merit Scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who has contributed to his paddling club or to the community at large through leadership, volunteerism and service. Students may apply for only one scholarship.

Big Island Candies tournament sold out
The Big Island Candies Senior Golf Tournament. scheduled for May 11 at the Waikoloa Beach Resort Kings’ Course, has sold out. Registration is now closed for the tournament. Any additional applications that are turned in at the Kamana Senior Center or the West Hawaii Civic Center will be placed on a wait list and addressed if there are any cancellations.
