The Kealakekua Public Library will present “Stories on Stilts and Other Tall Tales” with Ben Moffat from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Moffat is a frequent performer at the Talk Story Festival in Honolulu and has toured the public libraries in Hawaii with various shows, including his solo storytelling performances using masks, stilts and puppets. This program is recommended for ages 5 and older.

Brain injury group meets Wednesday
The Brain Injury Support group will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Rehab Services located just mauka of the Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union on Hualalai Street. Sheoli Makara, the Alzheimer’s Association Aloha Chapter’s program coordinator for West Hawaii will be speaking. All brain injury, stroke or other neurotrauma survivors, their families and caregivers, interested professionals and the public are invited. How to zero-waste your life
Angela Kang, Hawaii County recycling specialist, will be the featured speaker at the next Ohana Night at the Energy Lab, presented by Hawaii Preparatory Academy at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The event is free and open to the public.
As part of her presentation, “Zero-Waste Your Home and Office,” families will make an alkaline battery capture bucket or sew a reusable bag.
Kang has worked in the education sector for more than 20 years, focusing primarily on technology, strategic planning, and institutional change management. She currently serves as a sustainability, environmental preservation and zero waste educator.
Ohana Night at the Energy Lab provides hands-on learning opportunities for families in the areas of energy and water conservation, energy generation, water clarification, zero waste, food sovereignty and green chemistry.
The final Ohana Night at the Energy Lab for this school year will be May 9, when Deacon “Dr. Beachcomb” Ritterbush, Ph.D., will present “Connecting to Nature Through Beachcombing.” Families will create beachcombing art.

Cat spay and neuter clinic April 17
The West Hawaii Community Mobile Animal Van is coming to Kailua-Kona and will be parked in the shade at Great American Self Storage, 74-5499 Loloku Street. Cat owners with a scheduled appointment are welcome to bring cats for spay and neuter surgery April 17. This special clinic offers free surgery to low-income pet owners and feral cat caretakers. The clinic is not meant to replace regular veterinary care, and all treated animals will receive a referral for future treatment with a local veterinarian. Vaccines, microchips and snap testing are also available at a low cost. Dr. Celina Hatt is the volunteer vet of the day.
Check in between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Pick up cats between 3 and 4 p.m. All cats must arrive in separate crates or traps and no food or water may be in with the cat. To make an appointment for surgery, call 331-8778 after 6 p.m. or email Ann at animals@threeringranch.org.
