Brent Gallagher

Brent Sherman Gallagher, 72, of Honohina, died April 6 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Massachusetts, he was a retired oceanography professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Hilo.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. April 13 at the Coconut Island pavilion for a celebration of his life. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Gina Gallagher, of Honohina; son, Brian Gallagher, of Salem, Ore.; daughter, Dawn Sylwin, of Seattle; hanai daughter, Christina Chatfield, of Hayden, Idaho; brother, David Gallagher, of Two Rivers, Wis.; sister, Stella Cordes, of Oakland, Calif.; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jerry Angelo

Jerry Ronald Angelo, 73, of Honokaa, died March 29 at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Haina, he was a retired mason, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church member, HK Kupuna Softball Team member and Navy veteran, who was aboard the U.S.S. Epperson.

Friends may call from 8 to 10 a.m. April 14 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa, where a memorial Mass begins at 10 a.m. Scattering of his ashes will take place at a later date. The family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by son, Richard (Marilyn) Angelo, of Kapolei, Oahu; brothers, Theadore (Nellie) Angelo, of Kukuihaele, Rudolph Angelo, of Kukuihaele, Norman (Barbara) Angelo, of Aiea, Oahu; sisters, Emma Paiva, of Ahualoa, Bernice (Manuel) Andrade, of Santa Monica, Calif., Brenda Angelo, of Honokaa; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Lance Chang

Lance Guy Chang, 56, of Kealakekua, died April 6 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 20, 1956, in Hilo, he was a Aoki Plumbing plumber, Central Pacific Bank former banker and Honolulu Federal Savings and Loan former banker. He was also a member of Akitsu Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Kona Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Kona Kumamoto Kenjin Kai, Kona Japanese Civil Association, Kona PONY Baseball Memorial Day Tournament Committee and Konawaena Dugout Club.

Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. April 14 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua. Service begins at 5 p.m.

He is survived by wife, Claudia Chang, of Kealakekua; sons, Jacob (Abby Sugihara) Chang, of Honolulu, Beau Chang, of Kealakekua, Vincent Chang, of Kealakekua; brother, Philip (Teresa Owens) Chang, of Tacoma, Wash.

Doris Higashi

Doris Shimako Higashi, 102, of Honokaa, died March 31 at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Ahualoa, she was the first librarian at the Honokaa Public Library, forelady at Dole Pineapple Cannery on Oahu, seamstress, Hilo Quality Cleaners employee, caregiver and a member of the Honokaa Hongwanji and Fujinkai.

Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. April 14 at Honokaa Hongwanji Mission, where a memorial service begins at 4 p.m. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sisters, Sueko Higashi, of Honokaa, Itsue Hino, of Honokaa, Mutsuko Higashi, of Honokaa; 12 nieces and nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

John Labrado Sr.

John Anthony Labrado Sr., 80, of Pahoa, died March 13 at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 9, 1931, in Oakland, Calif., he was a security guard.

A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. April 14 at 976 Almaden Circle, Oakley, Calif. Contributions can be made to the American Lung Society.

He is survived by spouse, Marcilina Labrado, of Ainaloa; son, John Labrado Jr., of Hilo; daughter, Ann Marie Labrado, of Honolulu; brother, Frank (Sue) Labrado, of Dublin, Texas; sisters, Pilar Ross, of San Andreas, Calif., Frances Martines, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Madeline (Dave) Petterly of Oakley, Calif., Janet (Marvin) Husley, of Dublin, Texas; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
