Holualoa Village needed a porta-potty for visitors at the site of its new public parking lot but didn’t care for the fiberglass look of the unit they rented.
With permission from Kona Lua, and donation of materials from Lowe’s Home Improvement in Kailua-Kona, volunteers transformed the plain “comfort station” into a classic outhouse that is more in tune with the historic coffee and art town’s character. It is now one of the most photographed buildings in the village.
