Jewelry artist demonstration set
in North Kohala
Sid Nakamoto will demonstrate a simple and beautiful jewelry design at a North Kohala Public Library adult and teen craft program Monday. He will present the program at 2 and 6 p.m.
Because of donations from the artist and Friends of the Library, the program and the materials participants will use to create their own jewelry piece are free.
The library is located adjacent to Takata Grocery Store in Kapaau.

Soroptimist club
plans Tuesday meeting
The Soroptimist International of Kona meets at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Royal Kona Resort. Guests and prospective members are welcome.

Underwater photogs meet Wednesday
The Kona Underwater Photographic Society will meet Wednesday at the West Hawaii Community Center. Parking is free and the doors open at 6:30 for set-up prior to the 7 p.m. meeting.
“Critter Interaction” is May’s mini-comp subject. Members will share their best recent work. The images must be in digital format either on memory stick, DVD or CD with dimensions of no more than 1024-by-768 pixels. Sharing is limited to three minutes per person.

Mango Festival
returns in July
A pre-event fundraiser and a variety of activities are planned for the fourth annual Mango Festival.
The Mango Tango Dance and Desserts Fundraiser is slated from 6:30 to 9 p.m. July 21 at the New Thought Center in Pualani Terrace in Kealakekua. The program includes a tango dancing show, dessert bar and silent auction. Admission is a $10 donation to the center. For ticket information, call 887-1292.
The Mango Festival returns to the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 and 29. The free festival celebrates Hawaii’s delicious and diverse mango varieties during the peak of the harvest season.
Arts and crafts, mango-themed desserts and drinks and fresh produce are offered both days. The July 28 schedule includes agricultural and educational offerings, culinary demonstrations and a recipe contest. A nonstop medley of music and performing arts is planned for July 29.
The fundraiser and the festival are presented by the nonprofit Sanctuary of Mana Kea Gardens. The community is invited to collaborate, support and participate. Exhibitor booths are available for businesses and nonprofit organizations. Volunteers are encouraged to assist with the festival. Contact event organizer Randyl Rupar at 334-3340 for more information.
