A Kailua-Kona-based company is seeking to purchase three Big Island radio stations, according to an application before the Federal Communications Commission.
Resonate Hawaii LLC, lead by managing member Dan Deeb, filed the application to acquire two Hilo-area stations KHBC (92.7), KIPA (1020) and Kona-based KHWI (92.1) from Chaparral Broadcasting Inc., of Jackson, Wyo., according to the application.
Resonate Hawaii submitted May 17 the “Application for Consent to Assignment of Broadcast Station Construction Permit or License,” which is required by the FCC when a contract has been developed for a station purchase. FCC approval is required for the company to take over operations.
The application does not contain what Resonate Hawaii will pay to Chaparral Broadcasting Inc. for the stations. However, according to West Hawaii Today archives, Chaparral Broadcasting Inc. in November 2011 paid $350,000 for the stations.
Deeb owns 49 percent of Resonate Hawaii’s assets while an Australian member claiming U.S. citizenship and an Austrian trust not claiming U.S. citizenship each owns 20 percent of the assets. A California-based member owns 1 percent of the assets, according to the application.
Deeb is also general manager of Mahalo Broadcasting LLC, which operates East Hawaii FM stations KBGX, KKOA and AM station KHNU, according to the application.
West Hawaii Today was neither able to reach for comment Deeb nor a Virgina-based attorney listed as contacts on the application.
