Hula presentation scheduled for Friday
Two kumu hula will inspire visitors at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park with the art of ancient hula using kalaau, two pieces of resonant wood struck against each other, as the featured musical implement.
The event is slated from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. The event is free, though park entrance fees apply.

Hui Laulima to hear
update from Evans
West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in the community meeting room of the West Hawaii Community Health Center, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.
State Rep. Cindy Evans, D-North Kona, South Kohala, will share a legislative update. She will also gather concerns and recommendations from West Hawaii service providers. All social service providers are encouraged to attend. Each provider who wishes to speak will be allowed three minutes to share concerns and recommendations.

North Hawaii driver education courses begin in June
Marlin Driving Academy is offering driver education classes in North Hawaii from June through August.
Classes are slated from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 5 to 28 at the Waikoloa Community Church.
Classes are scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 4 to 29 at Parker School. The academy returns to Waimea for classes from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 24 through Aug. 16 at Kanu O Ka Aina.
Classes in Honokaa are planned from July 9 to 27 at the North Hawaii Educational Research Center.
Course schedules are subject to change.
Driver education courses are open to students ages 151⁄2 and older. The courses include classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel driving time, scheduled individually after the completion of classroom instruction.

Agricultural risk management programs offered June 7, 9
The Local and Immigrant Farmer Education and Risk Management Hawaii programs will host two day-long events. Kona Risk Management School is planned from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 7 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. The second program, Ka‘u Risk Management School, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 9 at the Pahala Clubhouse.
Specialists in topics including the coffee berry borer, crop insurance and the risks of agriculture will present at these events. There will also be a panel discussion and a trade show including displays from fertilizer and chemical companies and beekeepers. Lunch, coffee and prizes are offered.
