South Kohala Police Capt. Aimee Wana said Thursday that police received a couple of leads in the investigation, but those quickly fizzled out. She also noted police received a report of another bark-stripping incident in the area, but officers were unable to confirm the report because the reporting party couldn’t be located. Checks of the area also turned up no sign of destruction.
The Anuenue Park trees, which included five calliandra and two native koa trees, were stripped of their bark and girdled sometime between March 2 and March 3, according to police. Wana said the trees still appear to be living despite the damage.
