Tropical Dreams, an ice cream company based in Waimea, has been named to this year’s Fastest 50.
The 18th annual Hawaii’s Fastest 50 list is compiled by Pacific Business News, in conjunction with First Hawaiian Bank, Kaiser Permanente, Oceanic Time Warner and PKF Pacific Hawaii LLP.
Club hosting meditation workshop
The Club in Kona is hosting a free introduction to meditation workshop from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday. Marlina Lee, owner of The Club in Kona, will teach the workshop. She is a Chopra Center-certified primordial sound meditation instructor.
The physical benefits of meditation are decreased heart and breath rates; lowered blood pressure and cholesterol; decreased stress hormones and strengthened immunity; less anxiety and improved feelings of well-being.
This workshop will give participants the basics of a meditation practice and can prepare them for The Chopra Center 21 Day Meditation Challenge that starts July 16.
Nursery offering

Tropical Edibles Nursery in Captain Cook is offering a garden of edibles from seed class.
“Seeding Your Edible Garden” is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday. The class will cover seed selection for the gardener’s taste and microclimate, seed sowing techniques and ways of taking care of seedlings, plants and produce.
The class, taught by Diana Duff, is $10 for students younger than 16 and $20 for adults. The nursery has a wide variety of seeds from which to choose. Seeds, seeders. seeding trays and seeding media will be included in the cost of the class, as well as all handouts. Hands-on experience of the seeding process will be part of the instruction. Attendees will be able to take home several seeded trays for their gardens.
The nursery is also offering a workshop on creating chocolate candy from home-grown cacao pods from 2 to 5 p.m. July 15. Vheissu Keffer from Kona Origins Chocolate will conduct the class offering cacao, handouts, instructions and demonstrations of the process from planting the tree to picking the pods and using the seeds to make chocolate. Hands-on experience of tempering and molding, as well as tasting, will follow instruction.
The fee for “Chocolate Sundae” is $30 and includes all handouts, instruction, materials, ingredients, as well as equipment and tool demonstrations and use. Attendees will be able to taste chocolate and take home candy they make. Registration is due by Thursday.
