Sylvia Maureen Abernathy, 75, of Holualoa, died July 5. Born April 1, 1937, in Morganton, N.C., she worked as an advocate for the blind and attended Mokuaikaua Church in Kailua-Kona.

Friends may call at 10:30 a.m. July 11 at Mokuaikaua Church. Burial follows at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Federation of the Blind, West Hawaii Chapter.

She is survived by daughters, Sherron (Stephen) Rosenberger, of Holualoa, Barbara (Steve) Sangerman, of Downingtown, Pa.; sister, Priscilla (Terry) Watts, of Hickory, N.C.; one grandchild.
