High surf advisory for Big Island shores

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high surf advisory for Big Island shores through 6 p.m. Friday.

The service forecast waves ranging from 5 to 8 feet. Waves might be higher, however, the service cautioned.

A high surf advisory means high surf could affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion, according to the service.
