John P. Souza, 77, of Pepeekeo, died July 6, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 26, 1935, in Pepeekeo, he was a private cane grower for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., Marine Corps veteran and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church member in Papaikou.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, where a Funeral Mass begins at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by brother, Manuel De Souza Jr. of Pepeekeo; sisters, Violet De Souza of San Jose, Calif., Isabel Chandler of Hilo; hanai sister, Kathleen Pinc of Pepeekeo; hanai brother, Danny Ortega of Pepeekeo; hanai daughters, Joanne (Dwayne Kanekoa) Souza of Pepeekeo, Juslynn (Manuel) Madrid of Pepeekeo, Magdlena Madrid of Pepeekeo; hanai sons, Robert (Shaylyn Araw) Navor Jr., of Pepeekeo, Joelden (Sophia) Souza of Pepeekeo; eight hanai grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
