planning to retire in 2014
MINNEAPOLIS — Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig insists he will retire after the 2014 season when his contract ends.
Selig was at Target Field on Tuesday for a celebration of MLB’s Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program. He said “nobody believes it” but he’ll be done in two years, despite sentiment he’ll stay until 2016 to pass Kenesaw Mountain Landis as the game’s longest-serving boss.
Selig has been in charge of MLB since 1992, first as an interim commissioner and then permanently in 1998. The 78-year-old says he loves teaching and wants to write a book, so his time to quit will soon come.

Braves place RHP Hanson
on 15-day disabled list
ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Tommy Hanson on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained lower back.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez had said Hanson — who is 12-5 with a 4.29 ERA — would likely be given extra rest before his next scheduled start, but Monday night’s trade with the Cubs for Paul Maholm made that move unnecessary.
Maholm will join the Braves today and likely start Saturday against Houston.
Chicago’s Danks to have exploratory surgery
MINNEAPOLIS — John Danks is done for the season, and the Chicago White Sox starting pitcher is scheduled to have exploratory surgery Monday to find out what is causing his left shoulder strain.
The left-hander hasn’t pitched since May 19. In nine starts this year, Danks is 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA. He’s in the first year of a five-year contract.
Manager Robin Ventura also said Tuesday that Chris Sale is likely to start in a week against Kansas City. The dominant left-hander has thrown 124 innings in his first season as a starter, by far the most in his young career. Ventura indicated Sunday that Sale could be battling fatigue.
Bulls announce
deal with Robinson
CHICAGO — The Chicago Bulls say they have agreed to a contract with point guard Nate Robinson. The Bulls announced the deal on Tuesday after reaching an agreement the previous day.
A three-time slam dunk champion, Robinson regained his form with Golden State last season after playing in just four games with Oklahoma City the previous season following a midseason trade from Boston. He averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 assists for the Warriors.
Warriors re-sign
Rush to 2-year, $8M deal
OAKLAND, Calif. — The Golden State Warriors have re-signed forward Brandon Rush to an $8 million, two-year contract.
Rush’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Tuesday that the second year of the contract is a player option for Rush. The deal is pending a physical that Rush will take in the next few days.
The signing highlights a busy two days for Golden State’s front office.
The Warriors signed free agent power forward Carl Landry — also represented by Bartelstein — on Monday. That deal is also worth about $8 million over two years with a player option for the second season.
Rush, a restricted free agent, averaged 9.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 26 minutes per game last season. Rush shot 45.2 percent from 3-point range and was Golden State’s best option off the bench.
