In a press release, tournament organizers announced on Wednesday a 33-player field for the Mitsubishi Electric, the season-opening event for the 50-and-older Champions Tour.
Past Mitsubishi Electric champions also participating include John Cook (2011), eight-time major winner Tom Watson (2010), Bernhard Langer (2009), Fred Funk (2008) and Loren Roberts (2006).
Other notable golfers include 1988 PGA Championship winner Jeff Sluman, 1992 Masters champion Fred Couples, 1995 U.S. Open champ Corey Pavin, 1996 British Open champion Tom Lehman and two-time major champion Mark O’Meara (1998 Masters, British Open).
The rest of the field includes: Michael Allen, Jay Don Blake, Olin Browne, Mark Calcavecchia, Roger Chapman, Russ Cochran, John Cook, Joe Daley, David Eger, Brad Faxon, Bob Gilder, Jay Haas, John Huston, Mark McNulty, Kenny Perry, Nick Price, Mike Reid, Eduardo Romero, Kirk Triplett, Bruce Vaughan, D.A. Weibring and Mark Wiebe.
Forsman shot a final-round 3-under 69 to beat Blake by two strokes at this year’s Mitsubishi Electric.
Three youth golfers shine at junior classic
Hilo’s Shon Katahira and Pono Yanagi, and Waimea’s Titan Oshura won their age divisions at the Big Island Junior Classic last weekend at Waikoloa Village Golf Course.
Katahira took advantage of an opening-round 3-under 69 and finished at 1 over 143 for a five-stroke victory in the boys 13-14 group. In boys 11-12, Yanagi closed with a 79 to make up a deficit and win by a shot. Oshura was the steadiest golfer in boys 7-10, edging Hilo’s Isaiah Kanno by a stroke.
Competing in girls 11-12, Hilo’s Kaelyn Uchida posted her first hole-in-one.
