A drug arrest during an islandwide fugitive warrant sweep on Wednesday has linked a 25-year-old suspect to a burglary ring believed responsible for a rash of break-ins throughout West Hawaii.
Kailua-Kona resident Joseph Augustino Narzisi was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lokahi Apartments complex in Kalaoa by officers participating in a multiagency arrest warrant sweep, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Narzisi was wanted on three outstanding bench warrants and several all-points bulletins.
Detectives investigating a rash of burglaries were able to identify several items in Narzisi’s possession that were reported stolen in four burglaries in the Kealakekua area between July 4 and Aug. 21. On Thursday, Narzisi was charged with burglary, terroristic threatening, assault and four counts of second-degree theft in connection with those burglaries.
Hawaii Police Department Criminal Investigations Division Lt. Sherry Bird said police recovered some of the items reported stolen during the crimes but had not located any of the autographed baseballs taken from a Kealakekua home earlier this week. She noted the arrest is linked to the main people committing the burglaries.
While arresting Narzisi at the complex on Wednesday, officers allegedly observed narcotics paraphernalia and drafted a search warrant for the apartment, which reportedly turned up 63.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine, also known as “ice,” 0.9 grams of heroin, prescription pulls and numerous paraphernalia, according to police. Bird called the amount of drugs located a “sizable amount.”
Narzisi was charged Thursday with numerous narcotics offenses including promoting harmful and dangerous drugs, methamphetamine trafficking, and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police.
He also faces numerous narcotics offenses, including promoting dangerous and harmful drugs and possessing paraphernalia, and firearms offenses stemming from a search warrant executed by police Tuesday at a home occupied by Narzisi in the Kealakekua area, according to police. Officers reportedly located methamphetamine smoking pipes, plastic bags containing crystalline residue, items containing heroin residue, paraphernalia associated with methamphetamine and heroin use, two handguns, one of which was loaded, and a large quantity of ammunition.
In connection with another incident that occurred on Aug. 22 when Traffic Enforcement Unit officers attempted to stop a sedan driven by Narzisi, who subsequently fled on foot, Narzisi was charged Thursday with promoting dangerous drugs, possessing drug paraphernalia and other traffic offenses. The drug offenses stem from a search warrant execution on the vehicle that reportedly revealed methamphetamine smoking pipes, items containing heroin residue and drug paraphernalia.
His bail was set at $495,000 pending an initial court appearance.
Further investigation revealed links between Narzisi and other individuals police want for questioning including 31-year-old Captain Cook resident Joshua Watan, 24-year-old Kailua-Kona resident Danny Estocado, 35-year-old Curtis Hoku Kekahuna Jr., and 31-year-old Kailua-Kona resident Ryan Jeffries-Hamar.
