Defending boys champion Waiakea fought past rival Hilo 2-1 in a key Big Island Interscholastic Federation bowling match on Saturday at Hilo Lanes.
It was the second straight week that the Warriors, under new coach Tracy Nakashima, had battled past one of the league’s title contenders. Last week at Kona Bowl, Waiakea edged Kealakehe 2-1 with Kylan Sakata leading the way with a 217-203-184—604 series. Garyn Hoota had a high game of 184 and teammate Jhumar Martinez added a 169.
In Tuesday’s edition, Hilo was incorrectly identifed as the winner.
