Traffic is about to slow down on Kaiminani Drive.
The Department of Public Works is starting a year-long construction project on the mauka-makai thoroughfare next week, officials said Friday. The work runs from the top of the road, at the Mamalahoa Highway intersection, about one mile down the hill, ending near Ahiahi Street.
Improvements include roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements, retaining walls, utility adjustment and relocation, mailbox and newspaper box relocation, road resurfacing, new signage and restriping. Jas W. Glover Ltd. won the $10 million project. The Federal Highway Administration is funding 80 percent of the cost.
Glover is working with the property owners, will coordinate removal, and or trimming plants located in the county right-of-way.
Traffic management plans will be in place between the construction hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No weekends, holidays and nighttime work is scheduled at this time, DPW officials said.
