Three authors featured at Tuesday’s Words and Wine event
Kate Kealani Winter, Betty Jones and Jason Lofland are the featured authors for the Words and Wine event scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Kona Stories in Keauhou Shopping Center.
In “Lost Twain, A Novel of Hawaii,” Winter suggests that in 1866, Samuel Clemens was “lost” when on assignment to the Sandwich Islands. He suddenly stopped writing and disappeared. In the book, Emily Witt discovers a notebook Clemens may have left behind. In narratives of Witt’s journey and Clemens’ missing weeks, the novel explores the lure of “going native” and how Hawaiians embrace outsiders — or don’t.
Jones, a pioneer in Waldorf kindergartens and preschools, has compiled timeless verses and creative activities for youngsters in her “A Child’s Seasonal Treasure.”
Lofland, a chef, co-wrote “Catch,” along with his brother Travis, a Bering Sea crab fisherman and TV personality. The dishes in this cookbook will satisfy a crowd of famished fishermen. Lofland will prepare a pupu for Tuesday’s event.
The event begins with an informal meet and greet which merges into formal book presentations from each author. The event concludes with a question-and-answer session around 9 p.m. For more information, call Brenda or Joy at 324-0350.
