Henrixson exhibit opens today at Wailoa
Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center in Hilo will open “I Am Working on It,” an exhibit by Sonja Henrixson, from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The installation of sculptures and photographs, an exploration of memory and time, will be displayed through Oct. 25.
Henrixson’s most recent work includes two sculptures, “going upstream” and “on the rocks.” “Going upstream” is a “memory curtain” composed of 365 black duct tape boats that zigzag up 20 lengths of black twine. “On the rocks” is a hand-sewn boat that lands softly on 12 black bed pillows.
Wailoa Arts and Cultural Center is located at 200 Piopio St., Hilo. The facility is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and from noon to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is free.
