The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation in Captain Cook, in conjunction with instructor Amber Martin, is conducting a women’s aerobics “dancercise” and fitness class from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Business network meets Wednesday
The Kona Krew chapter of Business Network International meets from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Island Naturals on Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona.
Delisa Macaulay of Kelly’s Tree Service will discuss the trimming of trees along boundary lines, and Chrys Yamasaki of Wes Thomas Associates will discuss how to be certain which side of the lot line that tree is really on.

Seniors to celebrate Halloween Wednesday
Kailua-Kona Seniors meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona.
The group will hold a Halloween costume party — with prizes awarded for the best costumes — followed by refreshments.

Disaster preparedness training offered
The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and the Hawaii Fire Department have scheduled an in-depth, 24-hour Community Emergency Response Team training course in Kailua-Kona starting Nov. 10 at the University of the Nations.
This Federal Emergency Management Agency and Department of Homeland Security-funded course is offered to residents, businesses and community groups free of charge.
The classes, held four consecutive Saturdays, teach the skills needed to face an emergency. Contact Bill Hanson at the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency at 935-0031 for registration information. Seating is limited.

Energy code seminar slated Nov. 20
The state Building Code Council has approved a new energy code, and adoption is under way. The Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism’s State Energy Office is sponsoring a free technical seminar for private sector professionals, building professionals, architects, engineers and contractors, as well as local code and building officials on Nov. 20 at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority Gateway Center. The training will provide a review of IECC 2009 and Hawaii amendments, as well as information on design strategies for code compliance for an air-conditioned residence and small commercial building.
Sessions are planned from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., including lunch, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants may attend either or both sessions.
