moves to Sheraton
The Hooulu Community Farmers Market has a new home at Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay. The weekly Wednesday market is 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the lawn fronting Kaleiopapa Street. The location provides plenty of free parking.
Produce, coffee, macadamia nuts and arts and crafts are offered. Each week, as many as 40 vendors will offer locally grown and made products, all using locally sourced components.

Event honors those who have died
Hospice of Kona is conducting its Circle of Remembrance to honor the memories of loved ones who have died from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay. Those attending are urged to bring a photo of their loved ones to share at the memory table.
The community and hospice families are welcome.

Tribute to Kalakaua slated for Nov. 16, 17
E Mau Ana Ka Hula — A Tribute to King David Kalakaua Hula Festival is Nov. 16 and 17 at Keauhou Shopping Center. The “merry” Hawaiian monarch (1836-1891) loved music and the arts and advocated for the dancing of hula, contrary to the wishes of Protestant missionaries.
The sixth annual event opens with hula workshops from 1 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 16, presented by kumu Laakea Arista, Noelani Kaaina (Chang) and Iwalani Kalima. Classes are in the Dance Center next to Kona Stories; registration is at the door. For details, contact administrator@nawaiiwiola.org.
Free Hawaiian performing arts by 16 different halau is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 17 in the center courtyard, along with arts, crafts and food booths. Serving as emcee, kumu Kaea Alapai will explain each halau’s style of dance. Outside coolers and food are banned.

Veterans Day service scheduled for Sunday
A special Veterans Day service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in North Kona.
American Legion Kona Post 20 members are dedicating this public service to those who have defended our nation while serving in the U.S. armed forces.
Retired Lt. Col. Daniel Malakie is the keynote speaker. Remarks will also be given by American Legion Post 20 Commander Antonio Gaspar.
The service will consist of the playing of patriotic songs by the West Hawaii County Band; singing of the national anthem and “Hawaii Ponoi;” the presentation, massing and retiring of colors; prayer; reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance; a 21-gun salute and taps; and recognition of veterans and service organizations, as well as congressional gold medalist veterans.

Hospital auxiliary meets Monday
The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary board meets at 1 p.m. Monday in the lower level conference room. Suggestions for new board members will be accepted.
Auxiliary bake sales are held from 7 to 9 a.m. Fridays in the hospital cafeteria.

Project Grad
meets Tuesday
Parents of all grades, family and friends are invited to the Project Grad meeting slated for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Kealakehe High School library. Those attending are invited to join a committee or just bring ideas or suggestions for the event this year slated after graduation ceremonies on May 25. Project Grad is an annual event providing a safe location for graduating students to celebrate with their friends and enjoy an all-night, alcohol and drug-free event. Since the inception of Project Grad more than 10 years ago, Kealakehe High School has not had a traffic-related fatality on graduation night. The event is open to Kealakehe, West Hawaii Exploration Academy and home school graduates.
