Joe Tokio Asai, 92, of Kapaau died Jan. 3, 2013, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born June 2, 1920, in Hawi, he was retired from Kohala Sugar Co. and Kohala Nursery, a World War II Army veteran, former member and retiree of the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of Kohala Jodo Mission, Kohala Senior Citizen Club and American Legion Kohala Post No. 4.
Friends may call at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Kohala Jodo Mission in Kapaau for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by sons, Earl Asai and Alvin (Ruth) Asai, both of Honolulu; daughter, Jocelyn (Marvin) Tengan of Kahului, Maui; brother, Scott (Nobu) Asai of Kohala; sisters, Fumiko Matsumoto and Shizue (Charles) Tatsuta, both of Honolulu; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
